Lee Reijgers, Director of Sales
Lee is proud to call Colorado Springs home after moving here from St. Louis, Missouri, in 1994. A graduate of UCCS with a B.A. in International Business, Lee has always looked to hospitality as his career. He dedicated 19 years at Cheyenne Mountain Resort with the last 14 years building upon his sales skills, and worked his way up from Business Development Specialist to Director of Group Sales in August 2014. Lee then spent 10 months developing the construction and pre-opening sales and marketing efforts for the 48-room Lodge and Villas at Flying Horse. Lee and his wife Jessica have two daughters, Mikayla and Kinsley, and a Yorkie, Bella.

Lauren Ripko, Senior Catering Manager
Lauren Ripko joins the team with nearly 20 years of experience in event curating, marketing and other facets of the hospitality industry. Raised in a small town in Kansas, Ripko moved to Denver to earn a Graphic Design Degree from the Art Institute of Colorado. She began her career in hospitality as a member of the conference services team for a Denver Marriott property and worked various jobs in hotels, ski lodges, restaurants, bars, floral design, and design studios.
Most recently, Ripko founded Quintessential Weddings & Events, a boutique Colorado planning and décor company. For the past ten years, Ripko has gained experience in wedding coordination and event planning through events such as the Denver Triathlon, Taste of the Highlands, the Highlands Harvest Festival, Taste of Old Colorado City, WestFest and hundreds of weddings.
In addition to her passion for event planning and the hospitality industry, Ripko enjoys spending time with her two sons, Finnegan and Cormack. She is a lover of art, art history, snowboarding, good food, whiskey and wine.

While attending California State University Fullerton, Mary worked as a Captain at the famous Ritz Restaurant in Newport Beach. This is where she cultivated her love of meeting planning. Mary moved to Colorado in the late 90’s, and while employed at the World Arena, she earned the designation “CMP” Certified Meeting Professional. In 2006, Mary relocated to La Crosse, Wisconsin, to assist her parents as they aged. In Wisconsin she continued her work in hospitality as a Sales and Event Director and a Catering Director at the Sodexo Campus. She recently returned to Colorado and joined the Garden of the Gods team as a sales manager.
Karen Plaskie, Conference Services Manager
Karen grew up in Allentown, Pennsylvania, and moved to Colorado Springs over 10 years ago. She volunteers with the Chamber of Commerce as an Ambassador and also with the Rising Young Professionals. Before joining the team in 2007, she worked at Cheyenne Cañon Inn for eight years. When she has spare time, she loves to mountain bike, hike, participate in other various sports, and watch football.

Monica Smiley, Director of Marketing
Monica is a marketing executive who loves to make real connections with guests and nurture relationships with influencers via social media. She thinks of herself as an engaged communicator with both creative and analytic capabilities. She has experience running successful multi-platform campaigns, creating month-end reporting that offers real insights and growing online reach through a mixture of organic and paid marketing efforts. Monica worked for Benchmark Hospitality for 16 years, including five years’ experience as Director of Sales and Marketing for the celebrity-owned Costa d’Este Beach Resort in Vero Beach, Florida. She also worked for two years as a Regional Marketing Manager based in Orlando, where her responsibilities included both property-specific marketing needs for Forbes Four Star Villas of Grand Cypress Golf Resort as well as cooperative initiatives for five additional luxury resorts in Florida and the Caribbean.
