Gene Gabelmann, PGA
Director of Golf
Gene grew up in the rural town Lee Center in northern Illinois. Golf has been his passion since age 12, and he started working at golf courses at age 14. After college he entered the PGA apprenticeship program and became a PGA member when he was 22. He spent most of his career as a golf professional in Arizona and California. Before coming to Colorado Springs, he served as the head golf professional or director of golf at several courses, which included: The Raven at South Mountain, ASU Karsten, Los Coyotes Country Club, and Red Mountain Ranch Country Club. Gene, his wife Angela, and their son Connor joined the Garden of the Gods Club family in 2005. In their spare time, they enjoy golfing and skiing.

Cory Proehl, PGA
Head Golf Professional
Cory is approaching his fifth year as the PGA Head Golf Professional at Garden of the Gods Club. He is formerly from Central Illinois and moved to Phoenix to pursue his career as a PGA professional. In March 2007, he was elected to membership by the PGA of America and has worked in the golf industry for approximately 15 years. He was the 1st Assistant Professional at Glen Oaks Country Club in West Des Moines, Iowa for four years and was also the 1st Assistant Professional at The Raven at South Mountain in Phoenix, Arizona for six years. Cory's true passion is teaching, and he takes pride in giving quality instruction to adults and junior golfers of all abilities. His teaching philosophy has helped thousands of students become the best possible golfer that they realistically desire depending on their physical limitations. Cory's most important goal is to empower the student with knowledge regarding the golf swing, rules of golf, etiquette, and equipment. He currently lives in Colorado Springs with his wife, Melissa, and their two dogs.

Doug Wilson
Golf Operations Manager
Doug has worked at Garden of the Gods Club since June 1988. He moved here from Palm Desert, California where he worked for Sunrise Company at Palm Valley Country Club for five years. His daughter, Ashton, happily dominates most of his free time with all of her energy, but when he can slip away he also enjoys playing golf with friends and traveling.

Jeanne Smith
Merchandiser/Buyer
A native of Colorado, Jeanne and her husband, John, have lived in Colorado Springs since 1973. Jeanne has been part of the Garden of the Gods Club family since 2001. The Golf Shop has been featured in several trade publications and is in the top 100. She has three children and six adorable grandchildren. When not at work, she enjoys golfing, all mountain sports, and whatever the grandkids want to do.

Caroline Easton
Golf Events Coordinator
A Colorado native, Caroline moved to Colorado Springs to attend the University of Colorado, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in Marketing. She also earned an MBA from Regis University in International Business. She has two wonderful grown children (Shari and Don) and two adorable grandchildren (Ben and Noah). All of these family members live in Colorado and are nearby for frequent visits. She has a great partner, Jim Easton, with whom she is sharing this life. She volunteers for various non-profits, and is a member of Executive Women International and the UCCS Alumni Business Association. Caroline loves photography, gardening, playing the piano, and golfing. In general, she enjoys the outdoors and feels fortunate to live and work in our beautiful state of Colorado!

Ben Spiers, PGA
First Assistant Golf Professional
Having grown up in the Colorado Springs area, Ben attended Manitou Springs Elementary, Middle, and High Schools. Ben has successfully completed the PGA of America PGA/PGM professional golf management program. This program is designed to equip golf professionals with the tools necessary to manage their own facility, and has a primary focus on teaching the game of golf. Prior to joining Garden of the Gods Club in 2008, Ben worked at The Broadmoor Golf Club for four years. He enjoys playing golf, hiking, and spending time with friends and family during his free time. He and his wife, Rachel, are proud parents of a baby girl, Alivia born on December 31, 2009 and a son, Nolan born on August 17, 2011.

Michael Loosley
Assistant Golf Professional
A native of Colorado Springs, Michael played on the golf team at North for two years and Palmer High School for three years. As a sophomore, he received the Most Improved Player Award and as a senior, he won the Most Valuable Player Award. When not playing golf for Palmer, he was playing hockey and won a State Championship in his senior year. After graduation, he began to play more competitive golf in local, CGA and USGA events. During high school, he began his golf career at Cherokee Ridge Golf Course as a member of the Outside Services and Pro Shop Attendant Teams. In 2004, he was hired as the Pro Shop Assistant at Cherokee Ridge and quickly realized that he wanted to pursue his golf career and become a member of the PGA. For the past five years, he tended bar at Garden of the Gods Club. In October 2009, he married his long-time sweetheart, Rebecca.

Shea Gunkel
Director of Golf Course Maintenance
Shea earned a degree in Education from Dakota Wesleyan University, and after finishing a college baseball career his focus shifted to golf course maintenance. Soon after he received his certificate in Turfgrass Management from Pennsylvania State University, Shea moved to Colorado Springs from Canon City, Colorado in 2002 and has been working on the Kissing Camels Golf Course since April of 2003. In his spare time Shea loves to spend quality time with his two boys, Cael and Cain.

Alex Harris
Assistant Golf Professional
Alex has lived in Colorado Springs his whole life. He has been playing golf since he was seven years old. He graduated from Pine Creek High School and played golf all four years. Recently, Alex completed the PGA Golf Management program at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs. In December 2012, he will receive his Class A PGA Membership. Previously, Alex worked at Riverton Country Club in Riverton, Wyoming and Park Meadows Country Club in Park City, Utah as an Assistant Golf Professional. During the winter, he will be teaching golf at Sportz Skillz Indoor Golf and Tennis Center. Alex enjoys working in the golf industry. Since he was very young, it has been a life-long dream. He has a passion for teaching and growing the game of golf and is an excellent addition to the Garden of the Gods Club.
